The global market for blood culture testing is expected to grow by 71 percent from 2014-19, reaching almost $3.9 billion, according to a market research report.

Compiled by the website MarketsAndMarkets.com, the report noted that four factors will drive the dramatic growth in the business of testing blood samples:

  • High incidence of blood stream infections
  • Rising demand for rapid diagnostic tests
  • An aging population
  • The rising prevalence of infectious diseases

Of the end users included in the report, which ranged from hospitals to research centers, the report identified reference labs like QualTex Laboratories as the segment expected to show the highest compound annual growth rate.

The recent rain in the area has led the Metropolitan Health District to warn San Antonio residents to watch out for these pesky parasites. Standing water, as the result of saturated ground and frequent rain, is providing a perfect environment for mosquitoes to thrive.
 
And mosquitoes can be carriers for a range of viruses and diseases, including malaria, chikungunya and West Nile.
 
Scott Jones to Present Info on Rising Number of Cases Worldwide

Scott Jones, vice president for scientific affairs at QualTex Laboratories, will be presenting about the growing threat of hepatitis E at a meeting of major blood bank associations in June.

Jones will lead an industry workshop at the joint meeting of the South Central Association of Blood Banks and the California Blood Bank Society, taking place June 2-5 in Las Vegas.

His seminar, “Hepatitis E Virus: New Implications of an Old Infection,” will be on June 2.

BioBridge Global (BBG), a San Antonio, Texas-based nonprofit organization focused on regenerative medicine, blood resource management and biologic testing, is proud to announce the release of its 2014 Annual Report.

The report details a transformative year for BBG, including a name change, implementation of comprehensive strategic plans for each business unit and expansion of services for the health care industry, all with the aim of continuing its longtime mission of saving and enhancing lives around the world.

We’re proud to announce that BioBridge Global CEO Linda Myers has been named one of the winners of the 2015 Health Care Heroes awards, given each year by the San Antonio Business Journal.

Myers was one of the winners in the category of Outstanding Health Care Executive – Nonhospital-Based.

BioBridge Global (BBG) board members Mike Kreager and John Feik submitted letters in support of Myers’ nomination, as did Dr. Steve Davis and Ann Stevens. Davis is a co-founder of San Antonio-based biomedical firm StemBioSys Inc.; and Stevens is president of BioMed SA, a nonprofit organization that supports the biomedical industry in our city.
